The majority of people diagnosed with chronic kidney disease demonstrate signs of chronic, low-grade inflammation.  In people diagnosed with chronic kidney disease (CKD), cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the main cause of mortality. Inflammation has been implicated as a likely factor contributing to the accelerated CVD risk in this population.  This handout contains a list of anti-inflammatory foods broken down into categories such as protein foods, fruits, beverages, etc. The foods on this list contain high amounts of antioxidants, fiber, phytonutrients and/or omega 3 fatty acids as these are the dietary components associated with reducing inflammation.    This list can serve as a tool for educating CKD (non HD) patients seeking to enhance the nutritional quality of their diet,  slow down the rate of kidney decline,  and decrease the risk of future complications such as CVD. High potassium foods are starred.
