This product is intended to use when educating individuals with Diabetes. It includes a total of four handouts:

  1. Balanced Diabetes Plate Visual tool including example foods that fall within each food group and appropriate portion sizes (ex: 1/3 cup brown rice = 15 grams carbohydrate)
  2. Two example meals that follow the plate and describe which meal components fall into each food group.
  3. Balanced Plate for Breakfast which excludes vegetables (for those who don’t eat vegetables at breakfast).
  4. Two example breakfast meals that follow the plate and describe which meal components fall into each food group.

Use this product to enforce the importance of balance when eating to better manage blood sugar and explain how foods with fat, fiber and protein can slow the release of sugar into the blood preventing drastic spikes in blood sugar. I also find this useful in having the client/patient give me a few of their own examples meals they would cook when using the plate as a guide to creating meals at home.
