While working in two different clinical settings (acute and psychiatric) early in my dietetics career, I found the importance of educating myself on food-drug interactions; especially in the psychiatric hospital as there are so many. I resorted to flipping through various books and websites for every medication which was not ideal. I needed something all in one place to quickly reference to.

This 13-page list is for registered dietitians’ reference only in regards to psychiatric medications their clients may be taking. For each medication listed, you’ll find:

  • Brand and generic names of each medication
  • Food interactions and/or dietary precautions to consider
  • Common side effects which may affect a person’s nutrition status
  • Reasons why someone may be taking this medication

In order for this list to be the most useful, it must be updated frequently as medications come into the market. I will be updating this as much as possible, however, if you see a medication not listed or believe there is missing information, please reach out to me directly and I will be happy to update the list.
