This handout has 2 pages: one in Spanish and one in English

Proteins are divided into plant protein and animal protein. Each protein has an image and the portion that equals to about 5-7 g protein. Dairy portion provides 4 g protein.

An easy way to estimate how many servings of proteins your CKD patient needs in a day is to divide the total protein requirement by 10. For example, a 60 g protein diet will need about 6 servings of proteins in a day. The rest of the proteins will come from vegetables and carbohydrates.

You can teach the patient how many servings he/she may choose each day and how to distribute throughout the day. At the bottom part, each client with your help can create a one day menu considering their individual needs and food preferences.
