This list was created to give a one-page list of foods that could work for someone with kidney disease, heart disease, and diabetes.

Categories on grocery list include:

  1. Vegetables
  2. Fruits
  3. Meats/Proteins
  4. Cereals/Grains (Subcategorized into Bread, Cereals, Crackers, Grains)
  5. Dairy
  6. Frozen Foods
  7. Condiments
  8. Beverages

Foods categories that may impact glucose levels are identified to help the patient understand how to balance both diabetes with renal restrictions.  Also includes whole grains with a designation regarding higher potassium content.

This is my “go-to” handout for any first-encounter patient for renal diet education as it shows all the “can-have” foods available.
