page preview of somatic therapy workbook

Somatic Experiencing® (SE™) and Somatic Therapies are used as body-based approaches in trauma-informed care.  When we are experiencing high anxiety, stress, or trauma, our front brain cannot process information, learn, or “outthink” the person’s experience.  Somatic Therapies target sensations and the reptilian brain to completely heal from trauma.

Dietitians can use somatic therapies as part of trauma-informed care, to facilitate body awareness, attuned eating, and more. Somatic Therapies are the go-to strategy when a client is stuck.

This guide and workbook include:

  1. NINETEEN videos to reinforce and enhance the material in the guide. The videos include: an introduction to sensation, grounding exercises, boundaries, saying no, body tolerance, creating safety during meals, activation, and more
  2. The Guide includes an introduction to sensation, three pages that contain different sensation words and what they might indicate, an overview of trauma, the brain, and polyvagal theory. The videos are short. However, this is designed purposefully.  In order to rest and digest, smaller chunks of information are used.  The total time to watch all videos will be around 85 minutes. Some are shorter intros and others are 8ish minutes.  It is best to watch them while you are reviewing that section in the workbook.
  3. How somatic therapies treat trauma and the hijacked brain
  4. An overview of Somatic Experiencing® (SE™)
  5. Several exercises you can use with your clients (and videos to go with them).

  • a little dissapointed

videos very short, not quite what I was expecting. A lot of the content doesn’t seem relevant for a dietitian. I would only recommend if you are very intersted in somatic therapy.

    • Hi,
I’m sorry you were not satisfied. The videos are designed to be shorter as we process information in small pieces best. There were Nineteen videos. Yes, this is geared toward those that want to enhance knowledge in trauma and especially somatic work. The safety with meals, body tolerance, etc. are applicable to dietitians. We have to feel safe in order to rest And digest. Additionally, boundaries and teaching assertiveness is applicable to all that do any form of counseling. I understand this is not introductory level. Trauma and somatic work is generally a more advanced skill. If you have questions, I’m happy to answer them. I take pride in my products, aim to provide at a reasonable price point. I appreciate the feedback. Let me know if something was not clear or you want a way to best apply to the population you work with. I’m happy to help.
