With rising interest in the adoption of a plant-based or vegan diet, it’s important to help guide clients to proper nutrition. Counseling new and long-term vegan clients serves a responsibility to health professionals to provide helpful tools that will ensure a successful eating pattern.
In this three-page educational handout, Vegan Nutrition 101: Essential Nutrients for a Vegan Diet, it outlines the most common and essential nutrients of concern when following a vegan diet. These include iron, calcium, omega-3 fatty acids, zinc, iodine, and Vitamin B12. This downloadable PDF handout is a great tool to provide to new clients to help them meet these nutrients and know common foods that provide them.
The handout also includes one simple vegan recipe that includes all of the essential nutrients, with the exception of iodine.
