We spend more than 30 billion dollars a year on supplements, and more than half of the U.S. population is taking at least one nutritional supplement.  But is it always necessary to take a supplement, or is it just a waste of money?

This presentation provides an overview of supplement use, safety, dosage, and common shortfall nutrients RD’s should be aware of.  A comparison of food vs. supplements is presented and discussed.  This can be used to present to healthcare professionals or the community to provide a general overview of when it may be recommended to take supplements.  The information provided is not intended to replace the personalized advice of a healthcare professional.

There are a total of 67 slides.  The first 17 slides are more general and may be used for the community.  If more detail is desired, the entire slideshow may be used where more in depth information is provided on specific micronutrients.
